Mediation Services to Lake County

Conflict is a normal part of life and can arise in just about any aspect of life, be it at home, in the neighborhood, at school, work or play. Safe, confidential and effective mediation services are available to assist any Lake County resident to find a solution to a stubborn or aggravating situation. Just like the old adage ‘it takes two to tango’ - it also takes two to find a solution.

How can I get the help of Lake County Mediations?

Contact Lake County Mediations at 707.263.6800 and speak with the intake staff about your issue.

What happens after I call Lake County Mediations?

A LCM staff member or volunteer will arrange to speak with both parties on the phone. The goal of these initial conversations is to obtain an oral agreement, by both parties, to engage in a mediation session. Assuming that both parties agree to mediate a solution to their dispute, a mutually good date and time for the initial mediation will be determined with the assistance of LCM. A mediator (or possibly a team of two mediators) will be assigned to meet with the disputants at the agreed-upon time and place. Mediations usually take 2 to 3 hours and, depending on the particulars of the dispute, may require more than a single mediation session. A mediated agreement can result in a written or oral agreement – it all depends on what the disputants want and need.

Mediation Services to the Lake Superior Court

Lake County Mediations provides dispute resolution services to the plaintiffs and defendants of small claims and unlawful detainer (eviction) cases at the weekly Superior Court sessions held in Lakeport and Clearlake . The majority of cases referred to mediation by the presiding judge result in written settlement agreements and satisfaction by both of the parties. Cases that do not result in a mediated agreement are referred back to the presiding judge for a full hearing and decision. Disputants, however, usually find that achieving a mediated agreement most often results in a ‘win-win’ situation for both parties. This outcome is preferable to the ‘win-lose’ outcome often determined by the Court.

Election Monitoring and Vote Counting

Fair elections and secure vote tallying form the basis for effective transitions of leadership and governance by many mutual benefit organizations, such as mutual water companies, homeowner associations and Tribal governments. Disputes surrounding election procedures or mistrust of voting and vote counting procedures often result in the sidetracking of leaders’ attention and energy away from the organization’s priorities, and detracts from the reputation, overall effectiveness and legitimacy of the affected organization.

Lake County Mediations is experienced in managing confidential and effective elections. Guided by legitimate and relevant guidelines (Tribal constitution, Davis-Stirling requirements, California Corporations Code requirements, organizational by-laws etc.), LCM works closely with your organization to define and develop a process that results in a transparent election process, a secure vote count and thorough reporting. Please call LCM at 707.263.6800 to discuss your organization’s particular needs.
